Curator Ali Ettehad explains the popularity of Performance Art inIran and his own inspiration for a series, One Thousand and One Nights
 

Performance art debuted in Iran at the Shiraz Arts Festival, an annual summer event in that city and nearby Persepolis, before the 1979 revolution. It didn't make its way back to the Islamic republic - at least not officially - until 2002 at the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art.
