Rachel Carson and Silent Spring
Rachel LouiseCarson (May 27, 1907 – April 14, 1964) was an American marine
biologist and conservationist whose book Silent
Spring and other writings are credited with advancing the global environmental movement.
Silent Spring is an environmental science book by Rachel
Carson.[1]
The book was published on 27 September 1962 and it documented the detrimental
effects on the environment of the indiscriminate use of pesticides.
Carson accused the chemical industry of spreading disinformation
and public officials of accepting industry claims
unquestioningly.

STILL I RISE
STILL I RISE

Maya Angelou, 1928 - 2014
You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I’ll rise.

August Wilson, the master playwright
"In describing his own work, Mr. Wilson could be analytical
or offhand. A soft-spoken man whose affability masked a sometimes short temper,
he was a connoisseur of the art of storytelling offstage and on. Here's the
story behind all his characters' stories, in his own words: "I once wrote
a short story called 'The Best Blues Singer in the World' and it went like
this: 'The streets that Balboa walked were his own private ocean, and Balboa
was drowning.' End of story. That says it all. Nothing else to say. I've been
rewriting that same story over and over again. All my plays are rewriting that
same story. I'm not sure what it means, other than life is hard."
