My memorable trip to Dubai
They all looked up to see Burj Khallifa
The tallest building in the world
I did too!
And listened to Whitney Huston’s “I Will Always Love You”
While the pond blossomed into a colorful, wild dancing fountain
And I looked down on the highways
Where workers from Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, Nepal, the
Philippines, and Africa
Ghaghe vaagh
Sokhtah bereshtah
Eshkam ghod
Were returned home on the bus
In sunset.
Few Dirhams in their pockets
Thinking of throwing themselves on the road
Ending their unfulfilled dreams
Of sending paper money home
Along with a colorful dress
To their daughters!
